Daily and Shabbat Services

Because we are limiting the number of congregants in attendance, we are making our B'nai Mitzvah services private family events. On the weekends that we have a B'nai Mitzvah in the Barg Sanctuary, we are offering a Member Led service in the Freedman Levit Sanctuary to allow our members to continue attending services in the building. We are currently allowing up to 30 members who have registered in advance to attend that service.

The J.B. Greenfield Chapel minyan occurs daily in the Freedman Levit Sanctuary, visit our website for times, registration, and streaming. It currently consists of up to 30 members who have registered in advance.

Our goal is to provide in-person worship services, when deemed safe and appropriate, while protecting our congregants and staff. Individuals identified as high risk or higher risk are advised to remain home to limit their risk of exposure. We encourage these individuals to participate through our numerous virtual service options.

Registration for in-person services is available to members only, and requires logging in to reserve your space. Only those pre-registered individuals will be allowed on campus.

Special Constitution Meeting
Sunday, January 24, 2020 at 4:00pm virtually via ZOOM

President Jerrad Bloome, has called for a Special Congregation Meeting with the sole purpose of voting on a new Constitution. Only the Congregation can vote on constitutional changes at a regular Annual or Special meeting. The reason for a Special Congregation Meeting is that we would like to have the new Constitution in place prior to the next regular Annual Meeting.  All eligible members in good standing are able to vote.

The Constitution is the basic governing document of the Congregation. It sets out the parameters, responsibilities, and limitations of leadership. There are many changes being proposed, too many to enumerate here, some more substantial than others. For example, some changes have to do with revising the term of Officers and Trustees and the date of the Annual Meeting to coincide with the fiscal year, some with the size and makeup of the Board of Trustees, and some limiting the voting rights of past Presidents to those who attend meetings and participate in discussions. And there are many more.

In order to register for this special meeting you need to be logged into your account.
The link to attend will be sent day of to all those members in good standing who are eligible to vote.
The deadline to register is 12pm on Sunday, January 24th and you should register with the email address associated with your ZOOM account.

Kari Dunn Saratovsky is President & CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston. Saratovsky has spent her career in both government and the philanthropic sector building strategic alliances, directing programs, and facilitating national efforts that advance social change both within and beyond the Jewish community.

Papa Phil Can (His Kidney's Can't)
Phil was diagnosed with kidney failure in early 2020, and the family has been conducting an urgent nationwide search to help find a living kidney donor. 
 
Phil has lived in the Detroit area his whole life, and he and the family have been a part of the Detroit Jewish community for generations. He, along with his wife Debbi have been longtime members of Temple Israel and Temple Shir Shalom, and involved in countless Jewish organizations from the Brotherhood, Friendship Circle, and more.

Since his diagnosis in February 2020, Phil and his family launched www.PapaPhilCan.com and over 150 hero volunteers from across the country have raised their hands to learn more about donation and testing. Unfortunately, despite these amazing results, we have not yet found our hero donor, and Phil's condition is deteriorating quickly.

Special $300 tax deduction helps most people give to charity this year –
even if they don’t itemize
 
We are so grateful for the support of our congregants during this challenging year.  As we approach the end of the 2020, we hope you will consider making a 100% tax deductible gift in support of Congregation Beth Yeshurun. 
 
There is a special new provision for 2020 that will allow more people to easily claim an "above-the-line" deduction of up to $300 for cash donations made to Beth Yeshurun during 2020. This means the deduction lowers both adjusted gross income and taxable income – translating into tax savings for those making donations.  Charitable donations of up to $300 made before December 31, 2020, are now deductible when people file their taxes in 2021, regardless of whether you itemize your tax return.

Further, gifts of long-term appreciated securities that have realized significant appreciation can be donated directly to support the synagogue while ensuring your eligibility for a charitable tax deduction for the market value of donated stock.  Neither you nor the Congregation must pay capital gains taxes when the stock is sold, but we encourage you to consult with your financial planner for details.
 
Supporting Beth Yeshurun by giving stock directly to the synagogue rather than donating the proceeds of sold stock can result in a larger deduction and greater tax savings for the donor and a larger gift to Beth Yeshurun.  Moreover, your name will be listed as a member who cares.

Daily and Shabbat Services

Because we are limiting the number of congregants in attendance, we are making our B'nai Mitzvah services private family events. On the weekends that we have a B'nai Mitzvah in the Barg Sanctuary, we are offering a Member Led service in the Freedman Levit Sanctuary to allow our members to continue attending services in the building. We are currently allowing up to 30 members who have registered in advance to attend that service.

The J.B. Greenfield Chapel minyan occurs daily in the Freedman Levit Sanctuary, visit our website for times, registration, and streaming. It currently consists of up to 30 members who have registered in advance.

Our goal is to provide in-person worship services, when deemed safe and appropriate, while protecting our congregants and staff. Individuals identified as high risk or higher risk are advised to remain home to limit their risk of exposure. We encourage these individuals to participate through our numerous virtual service options.

Registration for in-person services is available to members only, and requires logging in to reserve your space. Only those pre-registered individuals will be allowed on campus.
