In 2020, ADL’s  (Anti-Defamation League’s) Southwest Regional Office received reports of 156 hate incidents.  Would you know if you witnessed a hate incident or hate crime?  Would you know what to do about it?  Join  us for a virtual lunch and learn presented by ADL Southwest Senior Associate Director Dena Marks, Rebecca Piller, and Jake Gardner on “Hate Incidents, Hate Crimes, and How to Respond,”  at 12pm on  March 11 via Zoom.

More about our speakers:

Dena Marks

Dena Marks is the Senior Associate Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Southwest Regional Office. Her main responsibility at ADL is publicity, but she also serves as a liaison with law enforcement, facilitates various training sessions, coordinates regional fact finding, handles some discrimination complaints and staffs ADL’s International Affairs Committee and Committee on Law Enforcement, Extremism and Antisemitism. Before joining ADL in April of 1999, she spent 21 years in television news. She also has worked as a group exercise instructor, personal trainer, freelance writer, waitress, janitor, and for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. She is a native Houstonian.

Rebecca Piller 

Rebecca Piller began her involvement with ADL through ADL's Glass Leadership Institute class of 2018-19.   She began serving as vice chair of ADL Southwest's Committee on Law Enforcement, Extremism and Antisemitism in 2021.  Rebecca graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2015 and currently serves as in-house counsel at the Port of Houston. 

Jake Gardner 

Jake Gardner has been involved with ADL since 2017 when he attended ADL's Glass Leadership Institute.  He has since joined the Regional Board and become the co-chair of ADL Southwest's Committee on Law Enforcement, Extremism and Antisemitism.  Jake currently works for AspenTech selling asset management software to energy customers.
