Talking to God with Rabbi Steven Morgen

Thursday, January 20, 2022 18 Shevat 5782

7:00 PM - 8:00 PMvia Zoom

Join Rabbi Morgen for a monthly Zoom program to think about how and why we talk to God and deep dive into our Jewish prayers.

In January, Rabbi Morgen is joined by Reverend Greg Han for Songs of Ascent: Psalms 121 and 126

What words can you bring with you when you “go up the mountain of the House of God”? These two psalms have familiar phrases, and that is partly because they convey feelings that many people might have on such an occasion. Whether your “mountain of the House of God” is in Jerusalem, or at your local place of worship, these Psalms may speak to you, or give you words to offer in praise of our Creator.  Explore these two psalms from both the Jewish and Christian perspectives with Rabbi Morgen and Reverend Han.

Since summer 2014, the Rev. Greg Han has served as the Director of Interfaith Relations & Education at Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM), where he works closely with diverse faith communities to further IMGH’s mission of “dialogue, collaboration, and service.” In his time at IM, he has significantly expanded IM’s faith community connections and educational offerings. Greg also has extensive teaching experience in multiple contexts. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Christian-Jewish Relations Certificate course. He was on the faculty at St. John’s School in Houston from 2008-2014, where he also directed the School’s Chapel program. Besides teaching English language and literature to first-year high school students, he also developed two courses for seniors exploring the intersection of ethics and literature and also spirituality and literature. He has taught at the university level in the Honors College at the University of Houston; during the 2019-2020 academic year he taught a section of the College’s “Human Situation” humanities course. Ordained in 2000, Greg also has over twenty years of pastoral experience as a Presbyterian minister, with nearly eight years of experience pastoring churches. He was the Associate Pastor at St. Philip Presbyterian Church from 2000-2004 and then the Pastor of Atascocita Presbyterian Church from late 2004 until early 2008. He earned a BA in American Studies from Georgetown University and a Masters of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School.
