Join Nate Looney for an introductory class on controlled environment agriculture for urban applications including an overview of cultivation methods, tips for getting started and industry best practices for cultivation in small or vertical spaces.

After spending an hour with Nate, participants will have a deeper understanding of:

●    How to choose the best technique for their skill level and budget
●    How to set up a simple deep water culture hydroponic grow system
●    The relationship between growing food and self reliance & resilience

More about Nate!

Nate Looney is the CEO and Owner of Westside Urban Gardens, an urban agricultural start-up based in Los Angeles, CA. A native Angeleno, Nate is an
entrepreneur, US Army Veteran, and an Urban Farmer.

After graduating from American Jewish University, as a fifth-generation farmer Nate was compelled to explore a future in agriculture. While he was in school Nate was
teaching himself how to farm indoors, and grow in controlled environments, He started by growing hydroponic tomatoes in his bedroom using LED lights. In 2015,

Nate graduated with his B.A. in Business.  The day after graduating, Nate filed the L.L.C. for Westside Urban Gardens, which uses controlled environment techniques to cultivate gourmet leafy greens and micro greens. He has continued his education via a 6-week course through Veterans to Farmers Controlled Environment Agriculture Course at Rebel Farms in Denver, CO, as well as a 3-month internship at Ouroboros Aquaponic Farms in Half Moon Bay. 

Nate’s crops are Homegrown By Heroes certified and have been sold in local fine dining restaurants and five Los Angeles area farmers markets, including the Beverly Hills and Santa Monica Farmers Markets. Nate currently consults controlled environment agriculture start-ups, speaks publicly about intersectionality and diversity in agriculture, and provides equity and inclusion consulting.
