My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: Book Discussion with Rabbi Strauss

Monday, November 23, 2020 7 Kislev 5781

12:00 PM - 1:00 PMon Zoom

At age 38, Jennifer Teege happened to pluck a library book from the shelf - and discovered a horrifying fact:  her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the vicious Nazi commandant depicted in Schindler's List.  Reviled as the "butcher of Plaszow," Goeth was executed in 1946.  The more Teege learned about him, the more certain she became:  if her grandfather had met her - a black woman - he would have killed her.

Join us for two events, open to the community, as we meet Jennifer Teege and explore her work:

  • Thursday, November 12th at 7:30pm:  Rabbi Brian Strauss will discuss with Jennifer Teege her discovery, her search for her family, and her recovery.  We will broadcast their conversation to our Beth Yeshurun website and to our YouTube Channel.
  • Monday, November 23rd at 12:00pm:  Once you've read the book, join us for a book club discussion as we discuss her story in the context of our theme for the year:  overcoming challenges.  If you are interested in participating in this discussion, please register below to get the zoom link in your confirmation email.

Please watch this short book trailer to learn more about her story.

We encourage you to purchase her book, My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me, on Amazon or wherever you buy books.

If you weren't able to join us for the Thursday, November 12th interview, here is in on our YouTube Channel.  Catch up before our discussion on Monday, November 23rd!
