"Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brothers and sisters to dwell together in unity." - Psalm 133:1
Dear Beth Yeshurun Community,
As I said on Tuesday night, having a full sanctuary for both of our Kol Nidre services was one of the most beautiful pictures I have seen in a very long time. Judaism teaches us that the presence of God, the Shekhinah, is most clearly present when a large group of Jews come together in prayer. Out of the madness of the recent past, we are blessed to have found each other again.
On behalf of the clergy, staff, and leadership, we hope that you found this season to be meaningful and engaging.
Rabbi Brian Strauss

High Holy Day Appeal 5783 The Kammerman & Segal Families
Beth Yeshurun is a community that carries each other during our most vulnerable moments. We are spiritually uplifted, religiously engaged, intellectually inspired with a dedication to loving humanity, leaving a legacy that will serve Jews for generations to come. Our Congregation is a home built by tzaddiks and it is a great honor to feature the meaningful stories of Rabbi Jack and Toby Segal as well as Sharon and Richard Kammerman as a part of our High Holy Day Appeal.
Names can still be submitted for the printed Shemini Atzeret Addendum
Yizkor is soon approaching, a time when we honor the memory of our loved ones. Yom Kippur Yizkor Services will take place on Wednesday morning, October 5th and Shemini Atzeret Yizkor Services will take place on Monday morning, October 17th.
Our Congregational Yizkor Book will be published to bring focus to the names of our dear family and loved ones. The Yizkor Book will be distributed at the synagogue on Yizkor and will also be available to the Congregation for distribution via mail or pick up at the synagogue the week prior to Yizkor. The entire Yizkor Book is also available electronically on our website.
To ensure that the names of your loved ones will be memorialized in our 5783 Yizkor Book Shemini Atzeret Addendum, the form below must be submitted by Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Names received after October 12, 2022 might not be printed in the Shemini Atzeret addendum, but will be included in the online version of the book as well as future printed addendums.
Also available below, is the form for the Reverent Tribute section of our Yizkor Book, which is dedicated to the members of Beth Yeshurun, of blessed memory, who served in the United States military to protect our freedom. This list is ongoing and once the name of your loved one is included, you do not need to complete this form again in the years to come. However, if your loved one is not yet included, please list the name(s) of your loved ones so that we may add them to the Reverent Tribute section.
Please complete these forms online by Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Should you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Sutton directly at 713-666-1881 x 315 or jsutton@bethyeshurun.org
We are deeply thankful for your support and hope that Beth Yeshurun’s Yizkor Book of Remembrance provides a source of comfort for you and our Congregation.

In honor of our "sister," Robyn Shkolnick, z"l, we welcome all Houston-area synagogue Sisterhoods to join us outside in the Beth Yeshurun sukkah for brunch while we create canvas panels to decorate the walls of the sukkah. SEARCH Homeless Services and its Council of Congregations invite faith groups across the Houston area to participate October 7th - 9th in World Homeless Weekend – a time for you to “do one thing” with your congregation to raise awareness, provide service opportunities, pray, and/or advocate for some of the most marginalized and vulnerable members of our city.
Beth Yeshurun is proud to participate and offer you two ways you can support this initiative at our SEARCH in the Sukkah event. All ages are invited to help with a hand-on mitzvah project at our Sukkot event where we will assemble snack bags with notes of support and encouragement. Or, donate supplies that SEARCH needs for those experiencing homelessness and those that have been recently housed. A full list of supplies can be found at the registration link below. Please register by Today, October 7th!
Young Professionals Schmooze in the Sukkah Thursday, October 13th 7:30pm | $18 Per Person

We will still be collecting items to donate to SEARCH to help those who are experiencing homelessness or are recently housed. A full list of supplies can be found at the registration link below.
Travel Through Torah & Simchat Torah Celebration Monday, October 17th 5:30pm Travel Through Torah | 6:30pm Simchat Torah
We kick off our Simchat Torah celebration at 5:30p with our Young Families as we Travel Through Torah. Our kids will work their way through stations of crafts and games, beginning with Creation and ending with the arrival in the Promised Land. This event is geared toward preschool and younger elementary school kids. Stick around for our service following! While we will have a treat for the kids, this event does not include dinner.
At 6:30p we will have our traditional Simchat Torah service in the Barg Sanctuary. Join all of our clergy for the hakafot - with both kids and adults - and for one of our favorite Beth Yeshurun traditions, the candy hakafah finale. We will also debut our beautiful new Torah covers and thank our generous donors as we invite them up for the first hakafah!
