1. Every seven years we are supposed to let our fields sit idle. And, on the 49th and 50th the sit idle, too. What might be the reason for this? What might be a problem with this system? How are we to feed our families if we do not actively farm the land for two whole years?
2. The English word Jubilee, comes right from the Hebrew, Yovel, (Lev. 25-11ff). Hallelujah, does too. So does Amen. Do you think most non-Hebrew speakers know that those words come from Hebrew? Why or why not? What do those words meaning English today? How are those meanings different form their original Hebrew meanings? If you don't know what they mean, look them up.
3. Why would someone want to be a slave? How bad would your life have to be, or have been, for you to give up your freedom? Can you imagine any situation where you might consider it? Does the Torah really want you to end up as a slave? Why or why not?
4. God calls us ''My servants (Lev 25:55).'' How is that similar to serving a human? How would it be different? How do you serve God? Does does a community serve God? Does everyone serve God? Can your dog serve God? Why or why not?
5. God promises (Lev 26:1ff) that if we follow His ways we will be rewarded and if we do not we will be punished. Is that really the way that you think life works? IS good always rewarded and bad always punished? If not, then how does the system work? Do you need to be rewarded right away for every good thing you do?
